Jose Mourinho expected to make a decision on his next job this week – report

Jose Mourinho is expected to make a decision on his next job this week, according to The Telegraph.

The Portuguese boss has been heavily linked with a move to replace Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford this summer since he was sacked by Chelsea last December which coincided with the start of Manchester United’s downturn this season which has continued through to May, other than our FA Cup run.

In their piece on Mourinho, The Telegraph’s Sam Wallace and John Percy go on to say Jose wants to be convinced that the structure at Man United is in place to allow him to succeed before he commits his future at the club. He has other options open available to him but has previously made it clear he wants to begin work at a new club as soon as the season ends.

Van Gaal has been insistent he will fulfil the final year of his contract at Old Trafford but an FA Cup trophy won’t help fans forget the disappointing performances under the Dutchman over the whole campaign.

With the end of the season only a few weeks away, it’s clear the club will have to make a decision soon in regards to appointing a new manager. In terms of potential replacements for van Gaal, Mourinho is a serial winner and has wanted the United job for some time so he looks like the stand-out but if we were to ignore him, is there anybody else available? Of course, Ryan Giggs is an option but after the David Moyes debacle, it might be a risk the club isn’t to take.

Mourinho’s reputation took a blow at Chelsea due to his off-field antics, management style and youth development but if United want a manager who is going to help them recover after the last three years, he may well be the best man suited for that job, even if he does divide opinion.

We’ve seen a lot of speculation about Mourinho over the last few months but if The Telegraph’s article is accurate, we won’t have to wait much longer to find out who will be in charge next year.
