Manchester United travel to Norwich City on Saturday knowing that anything less than a victory will not do in the race to finish in the top four of the Premier League. With that in mind, we’ve looked at who must start for Louis van Gaal’s side at Carrow Road.
Martial has been Man United’s most dangerous player throughout this season and they would lose much of their cutting edge if he was rested against Norwich.
The Frenchman’s quick feet and incisiveness with the ball has caused opposition defences havoc this season and his inclusion will be important if United are to put pressure on their relegation-threatened opponents. Martial is also in something of a mini purple patch having scored in his last two appearances against Everton and Leicester City. It is worrying to see United so reliant on a 20-year-old but Martial has delivered and then some.
Fresh from winning United’s Player of the Season award for the third time in a row, De Gea should be full of confidence as the campaign draws to a close.
The Spaniard has so often pulled United out of a hole with some spectacular saves and, for all their troubles, there is always a sense that van Gaal’s side can get something from a game with De Gea in-between the sticks. That being said, the hope is that De Gea isn’t given too much to do against Norwich.
Marouane Fellaini has been banned for this weekend’s game and Rooney will need to step up in the middle of the park in the Belgian’s absence.
Rooney has impressed in midfield recently but he often had the physical Fellaini alongside him to do some of the dirty work. It is important that the United captain stamps his authority on the game to help his side tick over but he is experienced enough to know exactly what he must do.
