Brazilian legend Ronaldo admits he is reminded of himself when watching Manchester youngster Marcus Rashford in action.

The Mancunian striker has burst onto the scene this term scoring seven goals in 15 appearances since he was given his debut in February and scored four goals in his first two senior starts against FC Midtjylland and Arsenal.

Rashford, who was recently named United’s U18s player of the season, has been heavily praised from his teammates and has also been likened to Patrick Kluivert by Louis van Gaal.

Talking about the youngster’s future, Ronaldo insists he seems himself in Rashford and has backed him to succeed at Old Trafford.

“He’s a very good young player,” he said.

“I see some of myself in him for sure – he has courage and he’s fast and is very good with the ball.

“I think for the strikers they have to be hungry to score and I see that with him. He has an amazing future.”

Rashford has enjoyed a remarkable start to his United career and now one of football’s most celebrated names has tipped him to have an incredible future with Man United. It will be another boost for a lad who is already bursting with confidence.

He was almost unheard of until Anthony Martial picked up an injury in the warm-up against Midtjylland but his performances have been well above expectations resulting in him starting every game for the Dutchman since then.

The youngster has proven his worth to van Gaal during the early stages of his career but he needs to keep grounded and focused on developing as a player. He’s currently on the right road and looks to have a sensible head on his shoulder as he concentrates on becoming a long-term success at United.
