Manchester United monitoring the ‘new Ruud van Nistelrooy’ – report

Manchester United are keeping tabs on AZ Alkmaar striker Vincent Janssen, who has been dubbed the ‘new Ruud van Nistelrooy’, according to Soccernews.

Janssen, 21, has broken through into the Netherlands set-up this season after scoring 26 goals in 33 league appearances for AZ. He scored his first international goal from the penalty spot in a 2-1 win over England at Wembley earlier this term.

The forward’s playing style has been compared to that of van Nistelrooy, who enjoyed a prolific goalscoring record for Man United between 2001 and 2006.

United have reportedly been watching Janssen for a number of months as they look to revitalise their attack.

Louis van Gaal really only has Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford as his options up top. Anthony Martial has been superb this season but he is yet to establish himself as a striker.

Bringing in Janssen would be a step in the right direction, although Memphis Depay also impressed in the Dutch Eredivisie last season and his move to Old Trafford hasn’t exactly gone to plan. Perhaps supporters would prefer United to sign proven talent rather than potential in the summer.
