Man United vs Bournemouth: Police confirm package at Old Trafford was an elaborate hoax

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed the suspicious package that forced Manchester Untied to abandon their fixture against Bournemouth in the Premier League at Old Trafford was an incredibly lifelike explosive device.

Army bomb disposal experts were called in as the entire ground was evacuated when a staff member discovered the package.

They have since carried out a controlled explosion to prevent any danger to the public and find out whether the device posed any threat to fans.

Daily Mail reporter Mike Keegan has reported the controlled explosion at Old Trafford was an elaborate hoax.

It was a worrying situation for fans and although it’s turned out to be a hoax, the bomb squad are still currently searching the ground to ensure there aren’t any other suspicious devices.

The stewards and staff at Man United did exceptionally well to avoid disaster at Old Trafford which may have saved the lives of fans attending the game had it been anything more than a hoax.

United’s fixture against Bournemouth in the Premier League has been provisionally rescheduled for 8pm on Tuesday before they face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup on Saturday.
