Anthony Martial has enjoyed a whirlwind debut season at Manchester United and on Saturday it could come to the perfect conclusion at Wembley.
Crystal Palace stand between Martial and the FA Cup which has eluded Man United for over a decade but thanks in no small part due to Martial’s inspired performances throughout the competition, least not his goal against Everton in the semi-final, we’re just one game away from winning it.
Martial’s been a pure joy to watch ever since his statement debut against Liverpool where he scored in front of the Stretford End. Ever since then he’s been on an upward trajectory and there is no doubt as to who United’s main danger man will be on Saturday.
In training ahead of the Palace game, he looked as cool as a cucumber just like he always does. You wouldn’t expect anything less of him.
It’s really hard not to jump on the Martial bandwagon now because his performances are so consistent. He doesn’t disappear in games, he’s always there and more often than not makes the difference. Without him in the team I’d be far less confident going to Wembley than I am.
The scary thing about Martial is that he’s only just 20 yet in his first season he has 17 goals to his name and five assists as well. He’s more than exceeded expectations and has already built a reputation which you can see on the pitch; defenders back off him now or double up when it comes to marking but still struggle to contain him.
What a poetic end to the season it would be if the man dubbed a ‘waste of money’ by the British press would be the one to drive us towards our first piece of silverware since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. Here’s hoping it happens.
