Here is the latest Manchester United transfer news and gossip.

There is no agreement in place for Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to join Manchester United next season, according to Sky Sports. The Swedish international enjoyed a spectacular campaign under Laurent Blanc last season, scoring 50 goals in 51 games, and declined the opportunity to extend his four-year contract with the French champions meaning he’s a free agent this summer.

Eric Cantona believes that Pep Guardiola would have been a better choice than Jose Mourinho to take over at Old Trafford. Mourinho is widely expected to named as Man United’s new manager this week following the sacking of Louis van Gaal on Monday.

Paul Scholes is hopeful that incoming United manager Mourinho can find a role for Ryan Giggs at the club. The original plan had been for Giggs to take over at Old Trafford after van Gaal had seen out his three-year deal but his premature exit has changed the situation. Giggs’ future at Man United is uncertain but Scholes, a fellow club legend, believes that his former teammate should be kept on.

Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has backed Mourinho to succeed at United. Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes is expected in London on Tuesday for talks with Ed Woodward as United look to replace Louis van Gaal, who was officially sacked on Monday.

United will not announce Mourinho as their new boss until Thursday at the earliest, according to Mirror journalist David McDonnell. Talks are ongoing between United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes in London.
