Sir Alex Ferguson’s former assistant manager Rene Meulensteen believes ex-Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be a perfect signing for Manchester United.
Ibrahimovic is a free agent after his contract with PSG ran out and having scored scored 50 goals in 51 games last campaign, Meulensteen believes he’d be a brilliant asset under Jose Mourinho, who enjoyed his time with the Swedish international during their time at Inter Milan.
Speaking about Ibrahimovic, Meulensteen insists he’ll bring invaluable experience to the young players at United.
“In some ways it would be the perfect fit for United at this moment in the time,” he said.
“For young players, he’s got a great personality, a charismatic person, he’s a leader in the dressing room, a winner.
“He’s won I don’t know how many titles so he brings a lot to the club and something that could really put United into winning ways.”
Ibrahimovic has won 12 league titles in his last 13 years and he might be exactly what we need at Old Trafford. The FA Cup was the first major trophy United have won since Sir Alex Ferguson retired and with Mourinho set to take over next season it may well be the perfect combination to help us get back to consistently challenging for silverware.
Zlatan worked with Mourinho at Inter Milan and managed to score 25 goals as Jose steered Inter to the Serie A title in 2009/10. Ibrahimovic was also named Serie A’s player of the year, won goal of the season and formed a very strong bond with Mourinho. Despite his age, Zlatan is one of the biggest names in the game but United will be weary as they haven’t had much success with their past marquee signings Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao.
