Yorke: Mourinho will bring back a winning mentality at Man United

Dwight Yorke believes that Jose Mourinho is the right man to bring success back to Manchester United.

Mourinho was appointed as Louis van Gaal’s successor on Friday, bringing to an end months of speculation.

Yorke, who was part of Man United’s famous treble-winning side in 1999, backed Mourinho to turn things around at Old Trafford.

“We want to be the number one club in the Premier League and he knows he has a challenge in terms of the players he has inherited from the van Gaal regime,” Yorke said.

“But a manager of his status will certainly get the best out of the players. There is no doubt in my mind that Mourinho will bring a winning mentality to the football club.”

Mourinho’s standing in the game has certainly been affected by his disastrous Premier League title defence with Chelsea last year. There are reservations, too, over his tendency to neglect youth and his misbehaviour off the pitch.

But there is no disputing his trophy cabinet, with Mourinho overseeing successful periods at clubs such as Inter Milan, Porto, Chelsea and Real Madrid.

United have been wallowing in mediocrity for too long and Mourinho’s arrogance and bravado is the right fit for the club in terms of what they want to achieve. It will certainly be an interesting ride for supporters as Mourinho looks to take United back to the top.
