Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is in the process of leaving the German club, according to Gabon coach Jorge Costa.
Aubameyang has reportedly been the subject of interest from numerous clubs, including Manchester United and Arsenal, following a spectacular campaign in which he scored 40 goals for club and country.
The striker was expected to feature in Gabon’s upcoming games against Mauritania and Ivory Coast but Costa revealed that he will play no part because he is in the middle of a transfer.
“Aubameyang has asked not to be selected [for the national team] because he is changing clubs,” Costa said.
Aubameyang is considered to be one of the most clinical finishers in world football and news of his impending transfer will be exciting to Man United supporters. Although, of course, any side in the world would be interested in him.
United are said to be considering a move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who left Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, but the team has a distinct lack of depth up top and it wouldn’t hurt to get more than one top quality forward in.
Marcus Rashford has done brilliantly in recent months but a club of United’s stature should not be relying on an 18-year-old week in, week out. Getting Aubameyang in would lead to a huge injection of quality in the squad.
