Bastian Schweinsteiger named in Germany’s final squad for the European Championship

Joachim Low has named Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger in his final 23-man Germany squad for Euro 2016.

The 31-year-old was a doubt to travel to the tournament, having not played competitive football since March due to a knee injury he picked up during international duty.

He’s been unlucky with injuries during his first year in England having only managed to play 18 league games, but it looks like he could be making a turn for the better as he’ll be back in action next month.

Borussia Dortmund forward Marcos Reus, who missed the 2014 World Cup through injury, is currently struggling with a groin problem and will not travel to France.

Low has decided to keep faith in his captain, he played a vital role when Germany won the World Cup in 2014 and will be hoping to lead his side to success once again.

Schweinsteiger recently said he felt right on schedule in his rehabilitation, but Low admitted he didn’t know if he’d be travelling with the rest of the squad. With age not on his side and injuries causing him massive problems, he will have to prove himself to new manager Jose Mourinho and performing well in the tournament may be the perfect way to impress.
