Manchester United defender Daley Blind insists he is determined to stay and fight for his place under new manager Jose Mourinho
Mourinho is allegedly planning an overhaul of Man United’s squad as he attempts to build a team fit to win the Premier League next season.
Speaking about his future at Old Trafford, Blind insists he’ll be looking to work hard under Mourinho.
“I am looking forward to working with Mourinho. We will have to wait and see whether anything changes for me,” he said.
“I will just give my all and work hard. Mourinho is a manager who has achieved a lot and I am keen to work with him.
“You might be looking for a certain statement [about my future], but I will just give my all under Mourinho.”
Louis van Gaal signed Blind from Ajax in 2014 and he had developed into a key figure at Old Trafford under the Dutchman, however van Gaal’s departure has now cast doubt over his long-term future at the club.
He was one of United’s best performers this season even though he played at centre-back for the majority of the campaign but it seems it seems he may have to consider his future ahead of a busy summer under Mourinho.
Mourinho has a history of signing tall, fast, strong central defenders and Blind will have to impress the Portuguese boss if he wants to remain at Old Trafford as he’s been deemed as a surplus to requirements. He picked up an injury whilst with the Netherlands team ahead of Euro 2016 and will be looking to put his head down and hit the ground running next campaign.
