Rui Faria set for Manchester United role under Jose Mourinho

by Sam Peoples

Jose Mourinho’s long serving assistant manager Rui Faria is joining him in a role at Manchester United.

While it had been expected that Faria was going to follow Mourinho given their long-standing relationship together, this is the first official confirmation he’s following him to Manchester.

At this moment in time, United have not revealed who Mourinho’s backroom staff will be and that’s more than likely down to the Ryan Giggs situation and whether he’ll be working under Jose or not next season.

As for Rui Faria, his record speaks for itself in terms of what he’s achieved with Mourinho. He’s been with him since the very beginning at Porto in 2004 and has served as Jose’s assistant for over 12 years, so there isn’t anybody who knows him better as a manager.

When it comes to Mourinho, making sure he’s got the right set-up to succeed is crucial and Faria’s arrival is a major part of that. Will it be as assistant manager as it has been for over a decade? I’m sure we’ll know soon enough but the confirmation we’ve now had is that Faria will be following Mourinho to Manchester. Welcome Rui.
