Jesse Lingard’s FA Cup winner wins Manchester United’s Goal of the Month award for May

Jesse Lingard’s winning goal in Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final has been voted by fans as the club’s Goal of the Month for May.

Man United were on the ropes in extra-time with the score 1-1 as Chris Smalling had received a second yellow card in the first 15 minute period.

But, in the second half of added time, Antonio Valencia’s cross was eventually smashed home by Lingard to send United’s fans into raptures.

It meant United secured an FA Cup victory for the first time since 2004 and the goal unsurprisingly received 76% of the fan vote. Anthony Martial v West Ham United received 8% while Wayne Rooney v Bournemouth got 6%.

United supporters had to endure a largely awful 2015/16 campaign under Louis van Gaal and the FA Cup win came as a joyous relief.

The winning goal was made particularly sweet as it was scored by Lingard, a United fan who had risen through the ranks at the club. Fans will be hoping that there are many more similar moments under the reign of Jose Mourinho.
