Jose Mourinho keen to sign experienced defender for Manchester United

Jose Mourinho wants to add an experienced defender to his Manchester United squad this summer on top of the acquisition of Villarreal centre-back Eric Bailly, according to Duncan Castles.

Man United have reportedly agreed a €35m fee for Bailly in recent days but Mourinho would not be satisfied with just his capture.

The Portuguese will also look to add an experienced defender as he bids to reshape the imbalanced squad he inherited from Louis van Gaal.

Daley Blind and Chris Smalling played a hefty amount of games together in central defence for United during the 2015/16 season and they helped the team to an impressive record at the back.

However, a large part of that was down to the world-class form of David de Gea in-between the sticks.

Blind, in particular, doesn’t quite look like a natural defender and his physical profile goes against the strong, athletic mould that Mourinho has favoured over the course of his career. It is highly unlikely that Blind and Smalling will be playing together again come the first game of next season.
