Valencia midfielder and rumoured Manchester United target Andre Gomes has fuelled speculation surrounding his future by revealing his admiration for Jose Mourinho.
Man United have been strongly linked with a move for Gomes and recent reports suggested that the club had made an offer to Valencia in the region of £35m.
But Mourinho, who was named as Louis van Gaal’s successor at United last month, is only expected to sanction a deal when he officially takes charge at Old Trafford in July.
“I can only say that Mourinho is a great coach,” Gomes said.
“I’m not worried about what will happen after the Euros because at the moment I am focused on the national team.”
Gomes’ comments are hardly ruling out a move to United and it would appear that something is going on behind the scenes.
It is clear that Mourinho is on the hunt for midfield reinforcements this summer, with Sporting Lisbon’s Joao Mario also said to be on United’s radar.
Gomes is highly rated in Spain and, at 22, he should only get better. But it is unlikely that a move will happen until after the European Championships as the player will want to focus on doing well for Portugal. It will certainly be an exciting summer in terms of player recruitment at United.
