“I’ll be ready”: Luke Shaw preparing for Manchester United return

by Sam Peoples

It’s extremely cliche but Luke Shaw‘s return for Manchester United next season is going to feel like a new signing.

The 20-year-old started off 2015/16 in superb form after pushing himself to the max before and during pre-season and you could see how much that hard paid off, only for his opportunity to be cruelly taken away from him due to a double leg fracture against PSV Eindhoven.

Man United failed to properly replace him and looking ahead towards next year, Shaw is determined and says he’ll be ready for what’s next.

Shaw’s absence really hit Louis van Gaal‘s side hard because the Dutchman’s dependence on full-backs meant the style of play suffered badly. Without Shaw, we lost our threat on the left hand side and Memphis Depay dimmed into a faded light for the rest of the campaign.

With him back at his best on the left hand side, there is so much to look forward to. Will he play with Anthony Martial in front of him? Will Memphis kick on and really blossom? Having Shaw back is crucial to all of that.

I can’t wait to see him back and am glad he’s playing no part in England’s Euro 2016 campaign because it gives him the best possible chance to rest and recover. Looking forward to next year, Shaw will hopefully become as important to Jose Mourinho as Ashley Cole was back in his early Chelsea days.
