David de Gea’s Manchester United release clause expires on Wednesday

Real Madrid only have until Wednesday to activate David de Gea’s Manchester United release clause, according to reports.

De Gea signed a new four-year deal at Old Trafford at the start of the season after a deadline day move to the Bernabeu collapsed last summer.

He has still continued to be linked with a move back to Spain but Times say his special exit clause expires this weak which means Madrid will be forced into buying him or miss out on his services.

Both parties seem to be content with the current situation with Keylor Navas in spectacular form and De Gea revealing his delight at Jose Mourinho’s arrival at Old Trafford.

De Gea has consistently been one of United’s best performers this season, keeping him at the club was one of the biggest pieces of business last summer and Mourinho must look to tie his long-term future at the club.

The spaniard was identified as Iker Casillas’ natural successor and with United missing out on the Champions League for the coming season it’s understandable that De Gea doesn’t want to miss out on any major tournaments while he’s at the peak of his career.

His performances have been invaluable for fans and he’s often saved us vital points during a disappointing campaign. Keylor Navas has swayed Madrid’s mind for now with his brilliant form but the next few days will be crucial with an action needed before Wednesday.
