Jose Mourinho has made contact with Marouane Fellaini ahead of reports suggesting he will leave Manchester United this summer.
Fellaini’s future is uncertain at Old Trafford with Mourinho’s appointment and he has often been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.
The Belgium international has already been in contact with the Portuguese boss as he has texted his players involved at Euro 2016.
Speaking about his future at Man United, Fellaini has underlined his desire of playing under Mourinho.
“Mourinho contacted me by text to say welcome to United and to wish me a good Euro,” he said.
“As far as my future is concerned, I’m under contract with Manchester United.
“In addition, a great manager, Jose Mourinho, is arriving.
“He likes to win titles and I would be honoured and proud to work with him.
“Now it’s up to me to show he can trust me.”
The 28-year-old has struggled to win over United supporters since his move from Everton on transfer deadline day in 2013. Despite some effective performances under Louis van Gaal like the FA Cup semi-final against Everton, he has often not quite fit in on the team.
Fellaini is a great asset to use on any team but wasn’t effectively used to the best of his abilities under the Dutchman last summer, with Mourinho coming in he’ll have to prove himself if he wants to keep his place on the team.
He has been included in Belgium’s squad for Euro 2016 and will be looking to impress the new boss if he wants to hit the ground running at Old Trafford next season.
