Michael Carrick insists new Manchester United signings will be surprised when they see the passion of fans at the pre-season tour in Asia.

Eric Bailly has been confirmed as Jose Mourinho’s first Man United signing after the Villarreal defender passed his medical at Old Trafford. He joined on a four-year deal subject to obtaining a work permit and cost the club a fee of £30million.

The Englishman has also recetly agreed a one-year contract extension and is set to be on the plane for the games against against Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai (22 July) and Manchester City in Beijing (25 July).

Speaking about the tour, he believes new signings such as Eric Bailly and the younger members of the squad will be taken aback by the welcome they receive.

“I think it comes down to the fact that the fans there don’t see the players up close very often,” he said.

“So when we do go across, it’s as if the passion and enthusiasm has built up over two or three years and it’s unleashed when we land at the airport.

“I’m sure it’ll be something quite surprising for the new boys and it’s always great to see.

Man United are visiting China for the first time since 2013 and with the rivalry between Pep Guardiola and Mourinho continuing in the Premier League the fixture in Beijing will be a fierce one to look our for.

Carrick has shown he still has plenty to offer, despite the signings of Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger last summer. He knows the club insists out and there’s no doubt his role on and off the pitch will be inspirational for the youngsters.

Mourinho has been busy at work by signing Baily, tying down Carrick and move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic said to be in the works. It looks like we’re only just getting started.
