Marouane Fellaini‘s elbows are arguably the most active part of his body as a footballer so it was no great surprise to see them in action against Italy in Belgium’s Euro 2016 opener.
What was a surprise was to see who was on the end of the flailing elbow – Manchester United team-mate Matteo Darmian. Mark Clattenburg didn’t pick up the incident and it’s unlikely anything will come of it but it just made me laugh to see Darmian on the end of one.
Clearly, nothing gets in the way of Fellaini’s loyalty to a good old fashioned elbow.
As Manchester United fans will remember clearly, Fellaini missed the last three games of the season for us after being found guilty of violent conduct for an elbow on Robert Huth after the Leicester City defender pulled his hair. Over his career at Old Trafford, his elbows have been one of the main talking points surrounding him for all the wrong reasons.
Will he get a chance to flail them around with Jose Mourinho in charge? I’m not so sure because you could easily see him leaving this summer if a buyer came in. We could certainly replace him in the squad with a better midfielder, that’s for sure.
