Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho vetoed signing Miralem Pjanic because he wanted to focus on Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, according to reports.
The 26-year-old recently joined Juventus from Roma but reports suggest Mourinho declined the chance to sign the midfielder for a chance of signing Pogba.
Mourinho has said to identified Pogba as a player he’d like to bring back to Old Trafford as a captain-like player after this summer. The Frenchman is one of the most sought-after players in the world and recently admitted he missed Old Trafford.
Mourinho was interested in buying Pjanic from Roma but decided against signing the 26-year-old as he looked to add Pogba to his list of signings along with the addition of £30million centre-back Eric Bailly.
There is said to be plenty of competition for Pogba and with Mourinho in charge there is a good chance he could move to Old Trafford to commit his long-term future in England.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is said to be on Man United’s radar as Mourinho looks to add depth to his squad and they will no doubt be aiming to challenge for the Premier League title and find a spot back in the Champions League next season.
