Anthony Martial has admitted his goal against Liverpool on his Manchester United debut was his favourite goal of his career.
After coming off the bench midway through the second half at Old Trafford, the French forward took precisely 20 minutes before he found the back of the net.
Picking up the ball on the left, the young debutant glided past three defenders before opening up his body and placing the ball past Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet into the far corner.
When asked by young French to teenager William about his favourite goal he replied: “My favourite goal for Manchester United? The one against Liverpool.”
There was plenty of pressure on his shoulders heading into the match as the world’s most expensive teenager but he was calm and collective, he managed to score with his first shot at the Stretford End and has since proven he worth every single penny.
It was a wonderful way to mark his debut and fans will always remember the goal, it even went onto win the Goal of the Season award and he has been compared with the likes of Thierry Henry since.
Louis van Gaal hinted his successor is more likely to benefit from Martial as he was one for the future so I can’t wait to see how he performs with guidance from Jose Mourinho next season.
