Jamie Redknapp believes Manchester United’s newest signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic can replicate club legend Eric Cantona.
An official club announcement for the Swede is expected soon after he confirmed his transfer on Instagram on Thursday night.
He is yet to undergo a medical but reports suggest he will be at Carrington on Friday afternoon with his agent Mino Raiola to complete the deal.
Speaking about Ibrahimovic, Redknapp insists the 34-year-old is sublime and will look to get the club back to the top.
“With an enormous personality and a physique to match, Ibrahimovic won’t be bullied the way some players have been over here,” he said in his Daily Mail column.
“He’s also got sublime technique and an absolutely booming shot. I can see him scoring plenty of screamers from distance.
“If there’s one thing the Old Trafford faithful do love it’s a big character – a talisman. Like Eric Cantona was.
“United fans are desperate to get back to the top at the moment and Ibrahimovic has the broad shoulders to carry that burden.”
He’s scored 51 goals in 50 games and would definitely help the club improve on their record-low goal scoring campaign of 46 goals in the Premier League last season under Louis van Gaal.
Cantona dragged Man United across the Premier League title in 1993 and there’s no doubt with Zlatan’s quality, his arrival will have the same impact at Old Trafford.
Ibrahimovic is one of the best goal scorers in the world, he’s a huge character and I can’t wait to see him back in action under Jose Mourinho after their successful spell together at Inter Milan.
