Patrick Vieira says Manchester will become the capital of football next season following the signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The striker announced on social media on Thursday that he will be playing at Old Trafford next season and an official club announcement is expected very soon.
The move sees him reunited with his former boss Jose Mourinho for a second time, having previously worked together at Inter Milan.
Vieira, who played alongside the Swede at Inter and Juventus, has backed him to succeed in the Premier League.
“He is a good friend of mine and we spent time together at Juventus and at Inter,” he said.
“We are still in touch once in a while and we have massive respect for each other.
“What I really like about him is his character – he is a winner, a guy who can drive the team because of his character and that is a very good signing for Manchester United.
“I spoke to him this morning – he said that decided to go to United and he believes that is a very good decision for him. Of course I will wish him good luck and I will be following him.
“Look at the two managers in Manchester; look at Ibrahimovic; Aguero on one side, Silva, Rooney. I think Manchester is the capital of football.”
He has won titles with Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, AC Milan and PSG, and fans are hoping he can add the Premier League to his glowing array of trophies.
Ibrahimovic had 50 goals in 51 games for French champions Paris Saint-Germain last season and will help the club drastically improve on their 49 league goals in the 2015-16 campaign.
There aren’t many bigger names than Ibrahimovic in football, he’s one of the best strikers in the world and hasn’t shown any deterioration as he enters the latter stages of his career. With Ibrahimovic you are guaranteed goals with the quality he brings upfront and I can’t wait to see him in action under Jose Mourinho next season.
