Paul Scholes is excited by Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s arrival at Manchester United and hopes he can continue his almost flawless winning record with his new club.
Ibrahimovic announced on Thursday that he would be joining Man United and after three years of uncertainty under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal, United are in a strong position to attack on all fronts next year under the stewardship of Jose Mourinho and a new look United side.
The 34-year-old Swedish striker is likely to take centre stage in that fresh team and speaking about him, Scholes complimented his charisma and said he had no doubt he could pull it off with United.
“It does excite me yeah,” he said.
“We’re clever enough to know it’s only going to be one or two years but he’s a fit lad and he looks after himself. He’s got great charisma and I think he could pull it off without a shadow of a doubt.”
As fans, we’re all in the same boat as Scholes. We’ve seen him win titles in 12 out of the last 13 titles and we’ve seen him score 50 goals for Paris St Germain last season but can he do it in the Premier League? His record against English teams isn’t the best but a player of his calibre has the ability to transform a mentally fragile United team into winners.
Scholes played under some players who were capable of doing that, none more so than Roy Keane, and United are certainly in need of a character like that who can inspire and lead by example.
The last time United missed out on something by goal difference in the Premier League, we signed Robin van Persie and won the title the following season. Will history repeat itself with the arrival of Ibrahimovic?
