Manchester United appoint Tommy Nielsen as first team senior scout

Jose Mourinho has appointed Tommy Moeller Nielsen as Manchester United’s first-team senior scout, reports Fyens.DK.

As the Portuguese manager begins to shape his squad and backroom staff, he has appointed an experienced coach with a vast knowledge of European football to scout for the first team.

Despite the fact that Mourinho seems to know exactly who he wants and has gone and signed three players in his first month in the job, he is keeping his options open and is prioritising scouting with the appointment in Nielsen.

Nielsen is 53 years old and has served as a coach with many sides in the past. His coaching career took him from Viborg FF in Denmark as the head coach to Glasgow Rangers and Aberdeen.

His father, Ricard Moeller Nielsen, led Denmark to an improbably 1992 European Championship win and it is obvious Tommy has the football gene.

Many suggested that Mourinho’s first task was to configure a squad and backroom staff that he was comfortable with, could trust and would lead to innovation on the field and in the transfer market. He is well on the way to doing that.
