From Italy: Pogba tells France teammates of Man United desire but Juventus want transfer request

by Sam Peoples

French newspaper L’Equipe got tongues wagging this week when they said Paul Pogba told his France team-mates that he wanted to join Manchester United.

Now, Italian newspaper La Stampa, or more specifically journalist Massimiliano Nerozzi, has furthered that story with an extremely similar report.

Nerozzi says Pogba has told team-mates out in Clarefontaine he wants to join Man United and that there were two important points which had to be resolved if Juventus were to agree. Firstly, that Pogba had to hand in a transfer request and secondly United would need to pay over €100m.

The idea of having Pogba hand in a transfer request is an interesting one. It may well be linked to a loyalty bonus which would be lost when such a request is handed in but more importantly if it happened it would put the onus on Pogba for forcing a move, rather than Juventus cashing in.

Now, it should be noted this is almost precisely what L’Equipe have reported and there is every chance Nerozzi is simply re-publishing their story and bringing it to the Italian press but it’s certainly escalating, simply for the fact it’s being brought to their attention in Italy. It can’t be ignored at this stage.

I’m looking forward to the end of Euro 2016 and the developments with the Pogba story. Gazzetta Dello Sport in Italy believe United will be going to Juventus with an offer on Monday and that’s what Gianluca di Marzio has also said last week, so we could be in for some very quick developments.

With the French, Italian and English press all talking about Pogba’s move to United, it’s certainly starting to hot up.
