Paul Parker: Jose Mourinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic aren’t right for Man United

Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has suggested Jose Mourinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will struggle at Old Trafford

The Portuguese boss has signed a three-year contract at Man United in May and was shortly followed by the arrival of Ibrahimovic after the Swede’s contract expired at Paris Saint-Germain.

While most fans are hoping the combination of Ibrahimovic and Mourinho can get the club back to their former glory days, Parker claims they won’t be able to replicate their success at Man United next season.

“He suggested when he came back to Chelsea that he’d learnt from his time at Inter Milan and Real Madrid but then went back to his old ways at that press conference again where he mentioned Arsene Wenger,” he said.

“I’m also sceptical about Ibrahimovic. He’s going to have to prove himself and has age against him.

“Mourinho likes a focal point up front. He likes an aggressive centre-forward.

“Ibrahimovic playing the same way as he did at PSG won’t work in the Premier League because teams down the bottom are far too competitive.”

While some were skeptical about Mourinho’s appointment as a result of his youth policy, he has underlined his interest to see youngsters develop while creating a world-class squad capable of also winning silverware.

Mourinho has only been at the club for a month, but has already filled huge gaps in our squad with the arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly and Ibrahimovic.

It is early to compare Ibrahimovic to Eric Cantona at Man United but hopes are he’ll be able to find his spectacular form in the Premier League and help the club reclaim the title.
