We’ve already taken a look at how Memphis Depay could adopt that role having had some, albeit limited, experience playing there previously but one player we shouldn’t completely overlook is Ashley Fletcher.
The 20-year-old had a good loan spell at Bristol City last season which culminated in winning the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and although he’s not expected to stay under Mourinho, surely giving him an opportunity couldn’t hurt?
As well as that, take a look at the back four. It’s teenagers all round and why not? A pre-season opener is the perfect way to get their confidence up, especially in Mourinho’s first game in charge.
This is also the first 4-3-3 we’ve taken a look at. The obvious weak link for me is how exposed Michael Carrick is but an energetic duo of Ander Herrera and Henrikh Mkhitaryan could negate that issue.
I’d certainly like to see United line up in a 4-3-3 at some point this pre-season because when we’ve got our full quota of players back, we’ll have so many options in all the positions.
