Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan has backed Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Jose Mourinho to succeed at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese boss was appointed as Louis van Gaal‘s sucessor last month and has already signed Eric Bailly, Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Mourinho’s move was followed by Ibrahimovic, who officially completed his move to Old Trafford after his Paris Saint-Germain contract expired this summer.
Speaking about his signings, Forlan insists they are the perfect combination to rival Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
“Mourinho and Zlatan are good choices for United,” he said.
“They’re experienced winners who’ve been successful wherever they’ve been. Mourinho already knows England well, unlike Louis van Gaal who was shocked by the intensity of games, especially over Christmas.
“Three big personalities will be in Manchester next year, three people who’ve clashed before and will likely clash again: Jose Mourinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic at United, and Pep Guardiola at City. All three are great signings.”
Mourinho’s reputation took a hit after a disappointing start to the season at Chelsea last year, but he has everything in place to succeed at Old Trafford to rival Guardiola.
Ibrahimovic is one of the biggest names in football and will definitely help the club improve on their record-low of 49 goals in the Premier League last campaign.
Man United have suffered disappointing tenures under Louis van Gaal and David Moyes but hopes are Mourinho is the right man to get the club back to it’s former glory days.
