Herrera, Mata and Valencia all back in full Man United training

Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Antonio Valencia are all smiles back in full Manchester United training as our pre-season gets in full swing.

Monday was Valencia’s first day back in training after his summer break but both Mata and Herrera have been at Carrington this week working hard ahead of our first game on Saturday against Wigan Athletic.

While I can’t see Herrera or Valencia leaving unlike Mata, there are question marks around all three players. Will Valencia be re-established as a right-winger? Will Herrera become a regular starter in central midfield under Mourinho? Will Mata be sold or has Mourinho changed his mind about the diminutive Spaniard? So many questions that we’ll have answers for in the coming weeks.

Somebody like Valencia could thrive under Mourinho. He’s a powerhouse and although his defending, and attacking, are a bit questionable, he’s the sort of player who might excel when driven in the right direction by Jose. Can the 2010/11 Valencia be brought back to life? He was mint before his injury woes.

Depending on whether or not we bring in another central midfielder, Herrera’s got an excellent opportunity to make a big claim one a regular starting spot. Sadly, I don’t think Mata will be a United player come the start of September but maybe I’ll be proved wrong.
