Zlatan Ibrahimovic could miss Manchester United’s pre-season tour – report

Zlatan Ibrahimovic could miss out on Manchester United’s pre-season tour of China, according to reports.

Jose Mourinho will oversee his side’s first pre-season match on Saturday, against Wigan Athletic, before the squad flies out to China for matches against Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund and Galatasaray soon after.

The 53-year-old, however, may allow Ibrahimovic to miss the trip as a means of ensuring the 34-year-old is in prime condition ahead of the 2015/16 season.

He remains on holiday after retiring from international football following Sweden’s group stage exit, but posted a video earlier this week showing him working hard on a treadmill.

Mourinho’s decision to save Ibrahimovic from a long distance trip to China is wise. With the Swede very much in the latter stages of his career, the he’ll have to be selective over when – and how – he uses the 34-year-old.

Having said that, Ibrahimovic has never shown any signs of being overwhelmed by a high volume of games, despite his age. In the last three seasons he has clocked up 141 games, growing stronger with each season. But in a notoriously physically demanding league, Zlatan’s incredible stamina and power will be put to the test.
