Wigan vs Manchester United: Predicted Starting XI – Mkhitaryan and Bailly debuts

by Sam Peoples

It’s always difficult to predict Manchester United’s starting XI, let alone when it is the first after a summer break, but here’s our predicted team to play Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

We’ve gone for Joel Castro Pereira in goal but it looks like he might be away on international duty with Portugal, meaning Sam Johnstone would step in.

In defence, Luke Shaw is set to make his first start for Man United since September which is fantastic and we’ve also given a debut to Eric Bailly. Timothy Fosu-Mensah at right-back and Phil Jones in the middle make up the remaining two positions.

In midfield, we’ve chosen Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera as partners in a 4-2-3-1 formation. We could potentially see Fosu-Mensah there instead but I do think Mourinho will want to see both Carrick and Herrera in action.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Adnan Januzaj and Memphis Depay make up our three behind James Wilson, so that’s two debuts for two of our new signings. All in all, it’s set to be an exciting game!
