Guillermo Varela set for Eintracht Frankfurt loan move – report

Guillermo Varela has agreed a loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt, according to reports.

The Uruguayan enjoyed a fruitful spell for the senior side last season, making 11 appearances under Louis van Gaal.

However, Varela has not featured under Mourinho during pre-season, with reports suggesting that the 23-year-old is surplus to the new boss’ requirements at Old Trafford.

He is now set to join Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt on a season long loan deal this summer.

After a positive start, Varela was badly mishandled by van Gaal last season. The youngster, performing reasonably well at the time, was beaten by Philipe Coutinho on the left hand side, who went on to score and effectively send Man United out of Europe. He was hooked at half-time and hasn’t returned since.

Needless to say, something like that has a monumentally adverse impact on one’s confidence. A move to Frankfurt, then, where the Uruguayan will compete with US international Timothy Chandler and 20-year-old Yanni Regasel for the right-back slot, is a wise move for somebody who desperately needs game time after the way he was so unfairly ostracised by the Dutchman.

He is a highly promising right-back with an immense amount of discipline and energy, which a season in Germany will only embolden and could yet play a crucial role under Mourinho in the future.
