David de Gea insists Manchester United can win the Premier League this season after seeing Jose Mourinho’s business in the transfer market this season.
The Portuguese boss was appointed as Louis van Gaal‘s successor last month and has already completed the signings of Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitrayan.
Speaking about Mourinho’s new signings, De Gea claims the new additions have made the club extremely strong ahead of a difficult campaign.
“I think we signed top players, really good players. We are Manchester United and we want to fight for everything,” he said.
“I feel for the fans, for the club and the players (that something exciting is coming) – you feel like it is a new era. I think the club is really strong now. The players, we want to everything and hopefully we can do it.”
De Gea was speaking at the launch of United’s new home kit in Shanghai, where the goalkeeper emerged onto the stage alongside Mourinho.
“Mourinho is a strong character,” he added.
“He is a winner – he is one of the best managers in the world and we feel it. We are really comfortable with him. He is a strong character but he makes jokes. It is good for us to laugh and I think he is a really good manager.”
Ibrahimovic gets pre-season training under way in Manchester this Sunday and De Gea hopes he will add a new dimension to United’s attack.
“You know he [Ibrahimovic] is a top player, he is a top striker,” De Gea said.
“He is a killer and hopefully he plays his best in Manchester.”
It’s good to see De Gea excited for the new season, his move to Real Madrid fell through last season and many thought he’d be on his way out this summer but it looks like he wants to stay and see Mourinho’s new side.
De Gea will play a vital role on Mourinho’s team this season, he was absolutely world-class and will be looking to build on his spectacular performances last season under the new boss.
