Jose Mourinho has revealed conversations between himself, the Glazers family and Ed Woodward.
The Portuguese boss was appointed as Louis van Gaal‘s sucessor and insists he wants to win the Premier League title in his first year at Old Trafford.
Man United have finished seventh, fourth and third in the three seasons since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement and he claims he isn’t only aiming for the top four next season.
“There was no ultimatum,” he said.
“The message from the owners and Mr Woodward was ‘get your three years, do your work, improve the team and bring us back where we belong during a three-year period’
“I want to be champion. A big evolution in the team, without being champion as somebody else was very strong, would not be a disappointment.
“But to say before the season starts that the top four is the target? The top four is not the target. We want to play to be champions.”
He’s been at the club for under a month and has already completed the signings of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly.
A deal for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba is said to completed this week as he looks to build a world-class squad capable of winning titles.
Mourinho is the right man for United and will be looking to get the club back to their former glory days after his reputation took a hit after a shaky start at Chelsea.
