Manchester derby cancelled due to poor pitch conditions

Manchester United’s final game of the 2016 pre-season China tour against Manchester City has been cancelled due to poor pitch conditions.

Torrential downpours in Beijing this week raised concerns about the condition of the pitch inside the Bird’s Nest stadium and they proved to be grounded following the cancellation of the match.

An official statement from United read as follows: “Due to recent weather events, tournament organisers and participating clubs have made the decision to cancel the International Champions Cup fixture to be played in Beijing tonight, 25 July.”

In terms of pre-season preparations, Man United’s couldn’t really have been any worse and it will raise huge questions over the justification behind flying half way round the world as a marketing ploy.

We’ve only had games against Wigan Athletic and Borussia Dortmund. Now all we have left are a friendly against Galatasaray and Wayne Rooney‘s testimonial before the Community Shield against Leicester City. Mourinho will not be happy at all and you saw that in his face during Sunday’s press conference.

The saving grace for United is that any potential injuries which the terrible pitch in Beijing could have caused have now been avoided.
