James Wilson and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson feature against Salford City

James Wilson‘s prospects at Manchester United look pretty bleak at the moment as he was included in a reserves XI team to play Salford City on Tuesday night.

The 20-year-old striker was left out of Man United’s pre-season tour of China by Jose Mourinho and wasn’t given a squad number when the full list of new numbers was released. So, everything points towards him being either loaned out or sold by the new boss.

I’m upset to see that Wilson’s route to first-team at football looks blocked by a lack of opportunity but the writing was on the wall when Marcus Rashford made his unexpected breakthrough. He effectively took the spot which Wilson had a chance of earning himself but through injuries and loan spells he was never able to take full advantage of it.

There aren’t many more natural finishers who have played for our U21s and U18s but one who has is Will Keane who Mourinho has chosen to give a chance to rather than Wilson.

In some separate good news, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is playing against Salford City which means he’s returned from injury. He missed our pre-season tour through injury but he’ll be our back-up choice at left-back this season, so it’ll be good to see him back in action.
