Paris Saint Germain winger Hatem Ben Arfa has commented on Paul Pogba’s impending transfer to Manchester United, labelling the move as a “huge deal” and placing faith in the 23-year-old to succeed at Old Trafford.
It was reported yesterday by Gianluca Di Marzio that the deal is set to be completed within the next 48 hours.
Pogba’s fee is expected to be in the region of £100m, smashing the world record set by Gareth Bale in 2013, and many pundits such as Robbie Fowler have questioned the Frenchman’s excessive fee.
However Ben Arfa, speaking to La Parisien, believes that Man United are making the right call over the midfielder.
“It’s a huge deal,” Ben Arfa said.
“If Manchester United are investing so much into him, it’s because they know what they’re doing.
“Of course, Paul will have a lot of responsibilities due to it, but I have faith in him.
“I think he’ll be able to impose himself very quickly.”
Pogba’s history with United, alongside the astronomical fee, perhaps gives the illusion that this signing is motivated by emotion, sentiment, and a desire for vindication after the Frenchman in 2012.
But Mourinho doesn’t make such signings. Rather, every player brought under 53-year-old’s wing has been scrutinised with cold-blooded precision and meticulously evaluated. So despite Pogba’s history with the club, Mourinho is purely thinking about the present, how he fits into this side and what he can add. And the Special One, after careful analysis, clearly sees something truly special about the midfielder.
