Jose Mourinho has hinted towards Manchester United completing another signing soon after telling MUTV the club will soon have another field player.
Paul Pogba is the player who Man United fans are desperate for the club to officially confirm as Mourinho’s fourth signing this summer and as we’ve reported today, this deal is now done and over the line but the announcement won’t come until next week.
Speaking to MUTV, Mourinho offered some real insight into how he wants his squad to shape up and what work needs to be done.
He said: “At the moment we have 22 field players and we will have another one.
“I think 23 for me is a good situation and good protection with so many games to play but maybe for some players they are going to feel a little bit of frustration because only 11 are playing and only 18 are going to be selected. So, every match there is a significant number of players who won’t be selected and that can cause frustration.
“But I told them if they wanted to belong to this project, to this marathon we have in front of us, you have to be ready for this and the club is more important than the players and the individual targets players establish for themselves.
“I think the squad has good balance but let’s see what happens.
When asked about whether he was confident about getting that fourth signing, Mourinho added: “I don’t know. The market closes on 31 August, we did a good part of our work in good time. we don’t have a lot of time to work but the players are here before the start of the season.
“Normally the busy market is in the last couple of weeks so if we have to be in that period in the market then we will be, it won’t be a big drama. I think we need one more player for a balanced squad and sooner or later I will have him.”
It’s a waiting game until the Pogba announcement but looking at Mourinho’s other quotes, I really like his comments about how players will be frustrated but they will have to deal with it. That’s the sort of managerial mentality we need and one which is notoriously difficult to do – Fergie made it look easy.
