Manchester United are expected to make an announcement about reaching an agreement with Juventus for Paul Pogba before he has had a medical or signed a contract, report The Telegraph.
James Ducker says Man United want to finish the deal before we take on Leicester City in the Community Shield on Sunday but are aware that might not be possible due to further delays in what is a massively complicated transfer.
Furthermore, Ducker quotes his own sources close to the club who say United are not at that stage where an announcement can be made yet.
Well, will the painful wait continue even further than we thought it would? We were expecting an announcement this week but if Ducker is correct, that might simply not be plausible. When it comes to transfers, especially ones of this size and magnitude, then delays are commonplace – not that that will make United fans feel any better.
However, Ducker’s tone of voice is indicative of a deal which has now reached a ‘when’ and not ‘if’ stage. In many corners it’s believed to be done already and in others there’s an expectation of it being pushed over the line – there is an overwhelming majority who feel he’ll re-join United and only a minority worried about the deal collapsing.
That in itself is far removed from how much confidence United have given us in recent years when it comes to transfers but things have changed immediately under Jose Mourinho and sooner or later we’ll get that official Pogba announcement. Unfortunately, there might be further delays.
