Man United vs Everton: Player Ratings for Wayne Rooney’s testimonial

by Sam Peoples

David de Gea 6 – He was a bystander for substantial parts of that game but pulled off a decent save or two.

Antonio Valencia 6.5 – Is he going to be our first choice right-back

Eric Bailly 6 – Quieter game for Bailly, helped by the fact Everton offered little going forward.

Daley Blind 6 – Similar performance for Blind and Bailly. Bit nonplussed.

Luke Shaw 8 – I think I love Shaw. Call it premature but I think he’s going to be our best player this season, already feels like a new signing.

Michael Carrick 5 – Maybe a little harsh but I want to see much more from Carrick this season.

Ander Herrera 7 – He’s having a cracking pre-season so far. Playing well and Jose Mourinho keeps starting him, excited to see him this season

Jesse Lingard 5 – Think he was a bit too indecisive against Everton.

Anthony Martial 5 – Looked a bit isolated and when he did get a ball in the box nobody was there or it was overhit.

Wayne Rooney 10 – A ceremonious 10 for Rooney on his testimonial night. Just over 50 minutes under his belt.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 6 – Bit slow to start with but warmed up and got better. Just great to see him in a Man United shirt at Old Trafford.

Phil Jones 5 – Still yet to be impressed by Jones at centre-back since his return from injury.

Marcos Rojo 0 I’m giving him this rating until he is sold.

Marouane Fellaini 5 – Biggest thing that stands out from his game is that he went down with an injury.

Morgan Schneiderlin 5 – Similar performance to that of Carrick. Game sort of passed by our central midfield.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan 5 – He might have come on in the second half but you’d have hardly known it. Our attacking was limp.

Ashley Young 5 – Didn’t seem to be on the same wavelength as Ibrahimovic when he tried to link-up with him. Disjointed.

Sergio Romero N/A – Really don’t think he was called into the game enough to discuss his performance.

Memphis Depay Like Mkhitaryan, I hardly heard his name. United had such little attacking threat in that second half.

Matteo Darmian 5 – His crosses looked more like Valencia of old. He’s up in stiff competition for that right-back spot so needs to play better.

Juan Mata 6 – Think Mata was quite nifty whenever he had the ball at his feet, which wasn’t very often to be honest.

Marcus Rashford 6 – Love how the Old Trafford crowd yelped in excitement whenever he had the ball. He’s got an aura already.
