Wayne Rooney is targeting more trophies at Manchester United after he played his testimonial against his former club, Everton at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

The Englishman has enjoyed a remarkable career at Man United and is hoping to play a vital role under new boss Jose Mourinho this season.

Mourinho will be disappointed with the 0-0 result, but there is plenty of room for improvement as he heads into the new season with his Man United side.

Speaking about his plans, Rooney insists he is hoping for more success at Old Trafford.

“I’ve had 12 seasons here at Man United and had plenty of success,” he said.

“Hopefully there will be plenty of more success at Old Trafford and we will be looking to win more trophies.”

Mourinho has been vocal of his plans for Rooney up front and the Englishman could be set for a big role this season under the Portuguese boss.

His link up play with Zlatan Ibrahimovic was brilliant against Everton, despite not finding the back of the net, they showed plenty of positives and will be very important this campaign.

Rooney will be looking to hit the ground running next season and will want to stay fit if he has any chance of keeping his big role on the side.
