The duo have been missing from Man United’s squad for the last couple of weeks after picking up injuries but Jose Mourinho has now got a full squad at his disposal ahead of our season curtain raiser at Wembley.
Our current weak point in the squad is at centre-back as Eric Bailly hasn’t had a regular partner with Smalling being out injured. Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones have all played there in parts but as soon as Chris is back he’ll go straight in the starting XI.
As for Fosu-Mensah, is right-back his best position? No, but I think that’s where he’ll get most minutes this year even if I want to see him in the defensive midfield role.
That isn’t to say Smalling or Fosu-Mensah will play, and in fact I don’t expect to see either of them against Leicester City, but seeing them back in training is a real boost.
