Manchester United 2-1 Leicester City: Player ratings

by Sam Peoples

David de Gea 6 – Marouane Fellaini gave him no chance with an awful back pass. Don’t think he made a mistake and wasn’t called into action too often.

Antonio Valencia 7 – Been impressed by his crosses and overall performances so far in the build-up to this season. As it stands, he’s our first choice right-back and another assist? Who is this Valencia?

Eric Bailly 8 – He continued on his great pre-season form with a superb performance against Leicester City. Looked mustard.

Daley Blind 6 – Better from Daley. Improved on his earlier games in the pre-season but will have a real battle on his hands to partner Bailly once Chris Smalling is fit.

Luke Shaw 6 – Still love seeing his barnstorming runs down the wing but didn’t offer too much going forward.

Michael Carrick 5 – Very slow and very cumbersome. With Morgan Schneiderlin, Ander Herrera and Pogba in the squad, I don’t expect to see Carrick start too many games this season.

Marouane Fellaini 4 – What an atrocious back-pass to give Jamie Vardy the equaliser. Other than that, he didn’t do much if anything of note. Can’t wait for Paul Pogba to replace him in the starting line-up.

Jesse Lingard 7 – Well, that goal is one way to force yourself in Mourinho’s long-term plans. What an effort from Jesse and overall he was a real thorn in Leicester’s side.

Wayne Rooney 5 – We’ve all been here before complaining about Rooney so this is nothing new but with Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the squad, surely he can’t play by default any more?

Anthony Martial 6 – Some moments of magic but to credit Leicester they defended pretty well.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 7 – Zlatan time indeed. The early buzz around Zlatan has been justified and he’s only increasing the anticipation with his goals – a great finish.

Substitutes

Ander Herrera 6 – Was a real shame he didn’t start. Don’t think it was his best game in the pre-season but certainly offered more than Fellaini and Carrick.

Juan Mata 5 – Not much of note from Mata but he did play out wide which isn’t his best position.

Marcos Rojo 5 – Didn’t play too bad at left-back today but he still scares me.

Marcus Rashford 5 – Leicester really doubled up with their full-backs to quash our threat from the wings.

Morgan Schneiderlin N/A

Henrikh Mkhitaryan N/A
