Luke Shaw has discussed the impact of Jose Mourinho’s new summer signings at Manchester United.
Mourinho’s side defeated Premier League champions Leicester City 2-1 in the Community Shield fixture to earn Man United their first piece of silverware under the new boss.
Eric Bailly had a spectacular defensive showing, while Ibrahimovic helped secure the late win just seven minutes from full-time.
Speaking about their performances, Shaw admits they both played a vital role in the victory.
“I was sat on the bench and someone said ‘it has got to be the big man’ and Zlatan delivered,” he said.
“He’s got so much confidence in his own play so it didn’t surprise me that he was the one that fired us to victory.”
“I’d have said Bailly was man of the match.
“He’s really good, he’s composed on the ball, he doesn’t tend to rush and he was strong at the back. Nothing got past him today and I’m really looking forward to seeing the player that he’s going to become.”
Mourinho was appointed as Louis van Gaal‘s sucessor in May and has already completed the signings Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly with a deal for Paul Pogba set to be confirmed within the next few coming days.
Shaw’s return to full fitness also feels like a brand new signing, Louis van Gaal tried to plug the gap for the majority of last season, but his presence of the pitch was always missed and it’s brilliant to finally have him back in action.
It looks like fans are strapped for an exciting season at Old Trafford as Mourinho looks to leave his mark on the club along with his new statement recruits.
