Rio Ferdinand: Paul Pogba can follow in Cristiano Ronaldo’s footsteps at Man United

Rio Ferdiand believes Paul Pogba can follow in Cristiano Ronaldo’s footsteps at Manchester United.

Pogba completed his £89 million transfer back to Old Trafford in the early hours of Tuesday morning after successfully completing a medical on Monday afternoon.

He signed a five-year contract with an option for a further year and is set to play a vital role in Jose Mourinho’s Man United side.

Speaking about the Frenchman, Ferdinand insists Pogba can become the next Man United player to be crowned best in the world.

“He is will on his way and with the platform of Old Trafford he has a real opportunity to be the next Man Utd player after Christian Ronaldo to be crowned the best player in the world,” he said.

“Man Utd need to build around a group of young hungry players like Martial, Lingard, Rashford and Pogba is the one to lead that group from the front – the only way he would want it.”

He has arrived four years after he left Old Trafford to join Juventus, but returns as one of the best midfielders in the world.

Not only will he link up well with the likes of Rashford, Lingard and Martial, as Rio suggests, but I can’t wait to see him create some moments of magic with new signings Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitarayn up front.

Man United fans may not have long to wait and could see him in action in their opening game of the Premier League season against Bournemouth on August 14.
