Juan Mata is likely to remain at Manchester United beyond the current transfer window, according to Sky Sports.

The Spaniard was substituted in Sunday’s Community Shield win over Leicester City just 27 minutes after coming on, fuelling speculation over his future at Old Trafford.

Although Mourinho has confirmed he took Mata off because he was the shortest player, it hasn’t stopped the 28-year-old from being linked to multiple clubs.

Mourinho sold Mata to Man United for £37.1m by during his time at Chelsea, but he could be set to play a role under the Portuguese boss at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese boss has been conducting his overhaul of the squad at Man United after acquiring the services of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly and Paul Pogba this summer.

Donald Love and Paddy McNair will be the first ones to leave the club after completing their medicals at Sunderland, while Marouane Fellaini and Adnan Januzaj are set to follow the defenders to David Moyes’ side

Bastian Schweinsteiger is also attracting attention from Premier League clubs as he looks set to leave Old Trafford, Mata has been given a chance to impress Mourinho at Man United and it looks like he won’t be following the rest of the players leaving this summer.

He’ll be hoping to hit the ground running under Mourinho if he wants the chance of cementing his place on the first-team, Mata featured in every Premier League game last season for Louis van Gaal and will be hoping to have a similar impact this season.
