Timothy Fosu-Mensah agrees long-term deal in principle with Man United – reports

Timothy Fosu-Mensah has agreed a new long-term deal in principle with Manchester United, according to reports.

The 18-year-old burst into the first-team last February and has impressed with an array of powerful, composed and commanding performances at both right back and centre back.

It was rumoured earlier on this summer that the Dutchman was set for a loan move away from Old Trafford, with contrary reports suggesting the defender is central to Jose Mourinho’s plans for next season.

According to Mail Online’s Joe Bernstein, an official announcement of a new contract will arrive in the next few days.

United fans will be delighted at the prospect of seeing Fosu-Mensah a new deal. The Dutchman is amongst a catalogue of youngsters that excelled under Louis van Gaal last season, and joins Marcus Rashford and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson in putting pen to paper, extending his future at the club after a bright start.

The 18-year-old is unquestionably a Mourinho-esque defender: strong, powerful and able to surge up the pitch, the youngster resembles something of a rough diamond, and could form into something special with the right guidance from the boss.
